| 2011-07-28 Iain M... | This is perhaps the greatest, and most spiritual, recording ever achieved of this majestic work, better even than the famous 1941 recording in Paris. Simoneau is electrifying in his intensity, and, though the sound (especially the chorus) may sometimes appear a bit thin to modern ears, there is an overwhelming commitment and energy to this reading. In addition, it is in early (and very successful) stereo, and the sound is superb. An essential recording. |
